Washing Instructions

Lingerie rewards gentle habits. Five minutes of care returns years of wear.

The Golden Rules

Six Habits That Preserve Everything

1

Cold water, always

Heat relaxes elastane and dulls lace. 30°C or below protects stretch, colour, and shape.

2

Hand wash first, machine second

Hand washing is the default for lace, embroidery, satin, and anything underwired. If a piece is machine-safe, it still goes in a mesh laundry bag on the delicate cycle.

3

Close every hook

Open hooks and eyes are the number one cause of snagged lace and torn mesh. Fasten before washing.

4

Gentle detergent only

A mild or lingerie-specific detergent. No bleach, no fabric softener — softener coats fine fibres and kills stretch recovery.

5

Press, never wring

Twisting warps underwires and breaks embroidery threads. Press water out between towels instead.

6

Air dry, lying flat

The tumble dryer is where lingerie goes to die. Lay pieces flat on a towel, away from direct sun and radiators.

By Fabric

Fabric-by-Fabric Care

Fabric Wash Dry Iron
Lace & embroidered tulle Hand, cold Flat Never
Sheer mesh & fishnet Hand, cold Flat Never
Satin & charmeuse Hand, cold Flat Cool, reverse side
Microfibre Machine delicate, mesh bag Flat Never
Modal & lyocell Machine delicate, cold Flat or line Cool if needed
Cotton & pointelle Machine delicate Flat, reshape damp Warm
Waffle knit Machine delicate, cold Flat Never
Wet-look & faux leather Wipe clean / cool hand Hang, away from heat Never
Hosiery Hand, cold Roll in towel, then flat Never
Underwired pieces. Always hand wash. Machine agitation bends wires out of shape even inside a bag — and a bent wire cannot be bent back.

Situations

The Fine Points

Stains

Act while fresh: cold water and a drop of gentle detergent, worked in with fingertips — never a brush on lace. For oils and cosmetics, let a little detergent sit for ten minutes before rinsing. Skip stain sticks and bleach on anything delicate.

Hosiery

Wash after each wear in cool water with a drop of detergent. Remove rings before handling — most ladders start with a fingernail or a stone setting. Store rolled, never folded over a sharp edge.

Storage

Moulded cups keep their shape stacked into each other, never folded flat with a wire crushed. Lace and embroidery lie flat or hang on padded hangers. Give wet-look pieces air — sealed plastic clouds the finish.

How often

Bras: every two to three wears. Briefs, bodysuits, and sleepwear: every wear. Robes and outer layers: when they ask for it.
